Why send through an SMTP relay
No code changes
Paste the server, port, username and password into your app's email settings. That is usually all it takes.
Signed for your domain
Mail sent over SMTP is DKIM-signed for your domain, the same as mail sent by API.

What is an SMTP relay?
It is a mail server that sends email on behalf of your app. Your app hands the message over, and the relay signs it, delivers it and handles bounces.
Which port should I use?
Use port 587 with STARTTLS, or port 465 with SSL. Both are encrypted.
Can I use it with WordPress?
Yes. Install any SMTP plugin, such as WP Mail SMTP, and paste the settings. WooCommerce order email then goes through the same relay.
Is SMTP or the API better?
SMTP is quickest for an existing app. The API gives you more control from your own code. Both use the same domains, logs and limits.
